GPRS/EDGE Access Point richtig setzen und dauerhaft speichern

Unter Settings->General->Network->EDGE können der Access Point Name (APN) und der Benutzername/Passwort des Carriers eingestellt werden. Dies ist notwendig, um auch ohne WLAN die Internet-basierten Dinge über GPRS und EDGE tun zu können.
Die APN ist je nach Carrier unterschiedlich, hier sind die wichtigsten in Deutschland und Österreich zu finden.
Seit der 1.1.1er Firmware ist das iPhone leider plötzlich etwas vergesslich geworden, was diese Einstellungen angeht. Nach einem Reset sind sie weg, obwohl bei mir der EDGE Zugriff noch ging, bei Hendrik nicht. Dagegen hilft es, die Datei /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/UnknownCarrier.plist auf dem iPhone so zu modifizieren, dass APN, Benutzer und Passwort dort permanent drinstehen. Wie das geht, steht hier, man sollte allerdings wissen, wie man Dateien von und zum iPhone bekommt (Tip: Cyberduck auf dem Mac oder WinSCP auf Windows, IP Adresse des iPhones in den WiFi Netzwerke nachsehen, user ist root, passwort ist dottie oder alpine).
