The "Wilamette Week Online" has a great piece from someone who is unhappy that city government of Portland seems to have a tendency to choose the MOST expensive option, also when choosing its mail system. This is just one on a litany of things that this city government is wasting money on. There are a plethora of stories on governments wasting money. What's new is that mail systems these days become expensive enough to be mentioned.
But things are changing. Governments are waking up to Open Source, the European Union was in the press and has some nice efforts going. Even though the established closed source vendors are lobbying heavily against open source use in governments, we here at Open-Xchange win more and more .gov organisations as our customers, also city governments. With our SaaS push we and our Hosting partners can help .gov's and everybody else to save even more.
